Our tool offers two proven approaches: Random builds fresh harmonies from color theory, while Image mode extracts the colors that truly dominate your photo by counting pixels. Both run 100% in your browser, no upload, no signup.

Frequently asked questions

1How do I generate a random color palette?
Select a harmony (or Random), hit Generate or press Space. Each press creates a new 5-color set (adjustable 1-10 with +/-). Lock any swatch to keep it while the rest regenerate around it.
2Can I also extract a palette from an image here?
Yes, hit the camera icon to upload or paste a photo and the tool counts pixels to surface dominant hues above the preview. For a photo-first workflow with a sample image preloaded, try the dedicated image palette generator.
3What is the difference between Random and Image modes?
Random creates theory-based harmonies from scratch (HSL math). Image mode finds colors that actually dominate your photo by frequency, best for matching existing artwork, logos, or photography.
4How do lock, drag, and adjust work?
Lock (padlock icon) pins a color across generates. Drag any swatch to reorder (order affects CSS export). Gear icon opens H/S/L sliders for fine-tuning without leaving the page.
5What do the harmony options mean?
Analogous = neighbors on wheel (calm). Complementary = opposites (bold). Triadic = 3×120° (balanced). Tetradic = 4-corner (rich). Monochromatic/Shades = one hue, varied lightness (minimal). Random = free vibrant mix for discovery.
6In which formats can I copy or download?
Use the Copy as switch for HEX, RGB, HSL or CSS vars, it drives both single swatches and the whole-set copy button. The download popup offers the same set as files: TXT stylesheet, SVG strip or labeled PNG.
7Is it free? Are my images uploaded?
Yes, free forever with no signup. Random palettes are pure color math, and any uploaded photo is read locally via Canvas. Nothing ever leaves your device.
8How many colors can a palette have?
1 to 10. Use -/+ beside the strip. Random defaults to 5, image defaults to 8 (dominant overview). History keeps your last 10 generations for quick restore.
